As reported at the IFCL meeting this past weekend, Senator Fady Qaddoura has introduced SJR14 this session. It’s a resolution calling for an amendment to the Indiana Constitution, to remove redistricting responsibility from the legislature and put it in the hands of a multi-partisan, citizens redistricting commission.
SJR14 has not yet been scheduled for a committee hearing. Senator Jon Ford, Chair of the Senate Elections Committee, has indicated he may have it heard next Monday, Jan. 24th, but this is no guarantee. If not scheduled and heard by early next week, it will die.
Please contact Senator Jon Ford tomorrow and strongly urge him to schedule SJF14 for a committee hearing this session. For extra credit, contact the other committee members tomorrow to support SJR14. Having all calls and contacts to senate offices (especially Sen. Jon Ford’s) come in on a single day is most effective. Tomorrow is our day.
For your convenience, committee members with their contact information appears below. If you phone, speaking with senators’ office assistants or leaving a voicemail is sufficient. (You won’t get a senator on the line.)

Fady Qaddoura (D) email S30@iga.in.gov; phone ” ” For a bit more background, attached is a letter sent last week by All IN for Democracy (the redistricting reform coalition of which IFCL is a member) to Senator Jon Ford, requesting a hearing in the committee he chairs. But your basic message is this: — Redistricting belongs with citizens, not politicians. — Hoosiers deserve a fair, transparent redistricting process. — A multi-partisan citizens redistricting commission is the key to that process. — You support it, and you want him/her to too.

Thank you for all you can do in this effort!
