FCNL shares issues at Western Yearly Meeting

Hasaan El-Tayyab, FCNL Legislative Manager of Middle East Policy and Alicia McBride, FCNL Senior Director of Quaker Leadership, described current FCNL initiatives with those who attended Western Yearly Meeting, Friday, July 12.

For those who want to correspond individually, here is a specific FCNL policy ask: a bipartisan letter from senators to the Biden Administration urging to immediately deploy the United States hospital ships USNS Mercy and USNS Comfort to the coast of Gaza. This act would provide much-needed support and relief to Palestinian civilians suffering in the region and demonstrate our country’s commitment to humanitarian principles.

Thanks to FCNL, IFCL provided important information in a letter to U.S. Senator Todd Young printed below.

Indiana Friends Committee on National Legislation (IFCL) is concerned about a matter of great urgency and humanitarian importance. As you are well aware, the United States plays a vital role in offering crucial humanitarian assistance during times of conflict and crisis around the world, including throughout the Middle East.

In light of the current tragedy in Gaza, where the need for emergency medical treatment is dire, IFCL respectfully urges you to lead a bipartisan Senate letter to the Biden Administration urging it to immediately deploy the United States hospital ships USNS Mercy and USNS Comfort to the coast of Gaza. This act would provide much-needed support and relief to Palestinian civilians suffering in the region.

Your leadership in calling upon the Biden Administration to take action in this regard would not only demonstrate our country’s commitment to humanitarian principles but also offer a lifeline to those in urgent need of medical care.

IFCL trusts in your compassion and dedication to humanitarian causes, and we sincerely hope that you will consider championing this initiative to bring aid and comfort to the people of Gaza during this challenging time.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to working with you to build support for this important endeavor in Indiana and beyond.
